World Humanitarian Day

August 19 marks “World Humanitarian Day”. According to the United Nations, World Humanitarian Day is a time to recognize those who face danger and adversity in order to help others. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the globe. This year, the United Nations has set in motion an awesome campaign with the theme “The World Needs More”, and of course, I completely agree with that statement.

Attacks against humanitarians are on the rise. As wonderful as life is, and as awesome as this world is, there are still numerous issues which need serious attention, and there are many people who desire to tare down or even destroy those who work to promote peace and love. I first want to recognize, just like the campaign does, all those heroes who have worked and continue to work tirelessly to promote equality and to save or otherwise change lives. I give particular recognition to the many humanitarians who have lost their lives. Because of them, the world has been made a better place, and though their lives have been unfairly cut short, their contributions and incredible efforts will never be forgotten.

Next, I want to say, again just like the campaign, that the world does indeed need more! Whether through the UN’s World Humanitarian Day efforts or through other channels, you too can make a difference in this world. Numerous projects, organizations, and other volunteers need your help in providing food, clean water, medicines, shelter, education, and much more to people of all ages, and that’s just the beginning. What about people who need places to live and work, those who have suffered at the hands of others, and those who simply have never found peace? Throughout your community and throughout our world, people can benefit from your loving hearts, your passionate voices, and your willing hands. Indeed, our very own BFM LifeQuest welcomes and encourages people to join us in helping to give and receive love and to make the world a better place.

Additionally, I am excited to announce that I have officially joined the causes of the UN World Humanitarian Day Campaigns by becoming a Messenger of Humanity, and I plan to encourage everyone in LifeQuest to do the same, as we add this to our official list of supported projects and causes. The following is taken directly from the Messengers of Humanity Website:

Messengers of Humanity are people who want to save lives and alleviate human suffering. They understand the power of social media and know awareness is a first step to mobilizing action. Through this program, Messengers of Humanity will share stunning imagery depicting the human face of conflict and natural disaster, unbelievable but true important facts and figures surrounding the humanitarian state of the world, messages of hope and action and extremely important information that when shared, could really help change the world.

Now I think that’s a worthy cause, don’t you? So, let’s spend some extra time thinking about the people around us who could benefit from an unexpected act of love and kindness, and then let’s be an angel in those lives. Also, let’s think even bigger and work towards helping others throughout our community, our state, our country, and our world. I highly encourage you to Become An Official Member of LifeQuest, where you’ll have many opportunities to be part of a variety of service projects and other activities that will better the lives of those around you. I also encourage you to support the worthy World Humanitarian Day causes by becoming a Messenger of Humanity. Remember, you have within you, an incredible beauty, power, potential, and a spark of the divine. Let us work together to make the lives of those around us as good as they can possibly be, and let’s change the world together.:)
